The New York Times Learning Network   Try the monthly crossword puzzle or take the Daily News Quiz.  Under Student Connections, look at NEWS SUMMARIES. News stories of the day are provided Monday through Friday during the school year. You can also "turn on" vocabulary and encyclopedia.

Bonus.com will probably appeal to your 8 to 11 year olds. It's a colorful, active site designed for kids, although it does offer a tour for parents and teachers who want to check it out before letting the youngsters loose. Bonus.com offers closed environment which keeps kids from wandering all over the web. Five different areas include: games, current events, homework help, art activities, puzzles and "fun" quizzes.    http://www.bonus.com/
eBlast is a new and very useful directory on the Internet. The site is run by Encyclopedia Britannica and is organized into 18 categories. The listings include a content summary. Classroom Connect says, "You'll find more educational links here than anywhere on the Internet." Have your son or daughter start research at eBlast instead of Yahoo, for a change.
